Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition Review: Is It Worth Buying?

When I was young, I had a different experience with reading because I have dyslexia. As I got older, I wanted to improve my reading skills, so I asked my grandparents for help, and I slowly became better. Having dyslexia does not mean I am silly or that I cannot do anything; it just means I need to take my time and find ways that make reading easier for me.

I used to go to the library and enjoy looking through the books, choosing the ones I wanted to read and putting them into my bag. The first book I ever read with my Grandad was The Twits by Roald Dahl. I loved that book and read it a few times. I still remember laughing at the funny parts and showing my Grandad my favourite moments.

After that, I did not read books for a long time because I was working, and it was difficult to find the time. Later, I was talking to a friend at work, and she recommended that I read Harry Potter. It used to be my favourite film series growing up, and she told me that the books were very different from the films. Since I already owned the collection, I thought, “Why not?” I started reading again while I was on holiday, and I also began listening to Audible. This made me fall in love with books all over again.

I started buying more books and filling my bookcase. I used to carry a book around in my bag wherever I went, but sometimes the pages would get damaged because of my drink spilling, forgetting to close the lid properly, or because the bag was too small for the book. I wanted something easier that meant I could take my books anywhere without worrying about damaged pages or finding enough space.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love physical books. There is something special about turning the pages and holding a brand-new book in your hands. However, I wanted to make reading more convenient, so I went onto Amazon to look at different Kindles. I first came across the Kindle Paperwhite, and after reading reviews and watching TikTok videos (which is one of my favourite social media platforms for finding information and reviews), I discovered the Kindle Colorsoft. After seeing so many positive reviews, I decided to buy one, and I honestly feel it was one of the best decisions I have made.

I was so excited when the postman arrived with my Kindle. After opening the package, I put on my screen protector, added the case, and started exploring the device. I discovered that I could access Audible audiobooks, which is great because I can listen while cleaning, travelling, or doing other activities.

One of the features I was most excited about was the colour display. When I read comics, such as The Walking Dead, seeing the artwork in colour made the experience even better. I also love that I can change the font to OpenDyslexic, which makes reading much easier and more comfortable for me.

The colour highlighting is another feature I really enjoy. I can highlight important words, favourite parts of a book, and sections I want to come back to later. Adding notes is also much easier, and it helps me remember important moments from the books I read.

One of the biggest advantages of owning a Kindle is how convenient it is when travelling. Before, I would pack several books in my suitcase, which made it heavier and took up space. Now, I can carry hundreds of books on one lightweight device and have a huge selection available wherever I go, whether I am relaxing by the pool or travelling somewhere new.

When I used to read physical books at night, I needed a book light. Sometimes I would forget where I put it or forget to charge it, so I would end up using my phone instead. With the Kindle Colorsoft, the screen brightness can be adjusted automatically, making it comfortable for my eyes. I can lower the brightness in darker rooms or increase it when I need more light.

What Could Be Improved?

Even though I love my Kindle Colorsoft, there are a few things that could be improved.

The biggest downside is the price. It is much more expensive than a standard Kindle, and some people may not think the extra cost is worth it.

I think the colour highlighting is a fantastic feature, but I would love to see more colour options added in the future. At the moment, the choices are limited.

Another thing to consider is that if you mostly read normal novels, you may not use the colour feature very often because most books are still black and white. The colour display is more useful for comics, graphic novels, magazines, and books with illustrations.

The Kindle is also quite limited compared with a tablet. You cannot use it for watching videos or downloading lots of apps. However, I actually see this as a positive because it helps prevent distractions and allows me to focus only on reading.

These negatives do not stop me from loving and enjoying my Kindle. For me, it has helped make reading easier because I can use the OpenDyslexic font, carry thousands of books in one small device, and read wherever I go.

Final Thoughts

The Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is a fantastic device for people who love reading, including me. The added benefits of colour, highlighting, and accessibility features such as OpenDyslexic make reading more enjoyable and personal.

If you read every day and want a premium Kindle experience, the Kindle Colorsoft is a great choice. However, if you are looking for a more affordable option and mainly read normal novels, another Kindle model may be better suited for you.

For me, the Kindle Colorsoft has changed the way I read and has helped me enjoy books again.
